Rottweiler obedience training

Rottweiler obedience training

Training your Rottweiler and obedience will build a solid foundation for you and your dog.  Your dog will learn to trust you and respect you.

How to Train a Rottweiler for off-leash obedience?

3-year-old Rottweiler in training. Dave is learning how to train his dog in obedience to a higher level of training.  Kane has learned his basic commands, sit, stay, heel come on a leash.

How to start working with your dog.

Now we’re conditioning Kane for off-leash; How to get started with polishing up your dog’s obedience training.  Kane is a little out of shape and he has not been work consistently over the several months, so we always want to go back to basics. It’s not fair to your dog if you don’t.  Dogs don’t forget what we have taught them, they just get lazy.

Dave likes to use a ball when training his dog.  I like to use the ball when training my dogs.  High driven dogs love to chase a ball.

Just in case you’re wondering why we are using the ball for training.

When you’re training your dog you want to keep your dog engaged with you because we don’t want them getting bored.  All professional dog trainers teach people how to use food for training or a toy for training.  I like to teach both.  It’s Important to keep training fun for you and your dog.

In this video, you’ll learn some helpful training tips that I am teaching Dave how to use with his Rottweiler Kane. If you have a dog that nips at your hands a lot with a ball, it’s best to start doing muzzle conditioning with your dog. This will help you with breaking this behavior fast.

Watch how Dave will reward the dog when I tell him to so you can see the difference in how his dog is doing.  Your dog does not know nipping at your hand for the ball is wrong until we teach them.  That’s is just the prey drive coming out in the dog when he sees the toy.

So what is prey-drive?

If you don’t know what prey- drive is in a dog.  All dogs are born with prey-drive,  it’s a natural instinct for hunting. It’s how they survive in the wild for food and water.  Dogs are born hunters. I’m sure you’ve heard of some dogs love to chase rabbits or cats, or any other kinds of animals.  So if your dog has a high prey drive for his toy we don’t want him to become overprotective of his toy.

Over the next few weeks, I will be teaching Dave how to Structure his training.  It’s important to know that it takes time to build these conditioning skills, not just for yourself but for your dog to.

Best of luck with your training. Dennis.
